When I voted for Barack Obama in 2008, he was probably one of least corrupt politicians to come down the pike in awhile. Sure, there was that real estate problem and the way he got himself first elected was more clever than corrupt. But, in the scheme of things, those transgressions paled in comparison to the actions of George Bush II, Bill Clinton, George Bush I and Ronald Reagan.
Well, a lot has happened in the last three years and President Obama can look into a TV camera and lie with a straight face like the best of them. Sunday, May 1st, 2011 was certainly a watershed day. Early that day an attack on Libya dictator Gaddafi's compound resulted in the deaths of his son, Seif al-Arab, 29, and three of his grandchildren. Ironically, Seif al-Arab survived a similar strike ordered by Ronald Reagan in 1986 when he was four years old.
Later that day, President Obama appeared on national television and lied to the American people. He said, "We quickly learned that the 9/11 attacks were carried out by al Qaeda — an organization headed by Osama bin Laden". Totally untrue. The blame was laid before any investigation was conducted and bin Laden was never charged with any crimes related to 9/11. The FBI's own wanted poster does not mention 9/11 at all.
"After a firefight, they killed Osama bin Laden and took custody of his body," the president said with a straight face. No, not true at all. There was no firefight; resistance came from a lone gunman who was quickly killed. Bin Laden's wife was not used as a human shield and was not killed, but injured. The special ops team killed four unarmed people, including, supposedly, Osama bin Laden, who was armed we were told, then, oops, not armed at all. This terrorist mastermind with enough information to bring down al-Qaeda was not captured for future "enhanced interrogation" but taken out and executed in the compound and then his body quickly buried at sea.
In March, Obama launched an unconstitutional war against Libya. This war has now dragged on for over six months with no end in sight. This war must be stopped but there is no alignment of Democrats or Republicans who would dare object. Congress has apparently abdicated their constitutional right to declare war and in effect, crowned the president as a King. The Constitution is quite clear in Article I, Section 1 that Congress has the power to declare war. This is so the people, through their representatives, can debate the merits of going to or not going to war.
The phrase "the lesser of two evils" often comes up when deciding who to vote for president. But the key word in that uncritical thinking remark is "evil". So, it is better to vote for someone who will only kill 10,000 people than someone who will kill 100,000? A spurious argument indeed.
I cannot in good conscious vote again for Barack Obama. His talk of "hope" and "change" were nothing more than lies. Instead of balancing the budget on the back of Wall Street, he has disingenuously placed this so-called burden on the backs of the middle and lower classes and the most vulnerable among us. Instead of ending the so-called war on terror he has increased war. "He has combined with others to subject us to a jurisdiction foreign to our constitution, and unacknowledged by our laws; giving his Assent to their Acts of pretended Legislation"; "For depriving us in many cases, of the benefits of Trial by Jury: For transporting us beyond Seas to be tried for pretended offences...He is at this time transporting large Armies of foreign Mercenaries to compleat the works of death, desolation and tyranny, already begun with circumstances of Cruelty & perfidy scarcely paralleled in the most barbarous ages, and totally unworthy the Head of a civilized nation."
